Your exact part
What is built into your windshield
Modern windshields carry hardware. Each item below means a different part number, and a different price, which is why we ask for the VIN.
| Feature | How to spot it | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Forward camera | A black housing with a lens behind the rearview mirror, often with a dotted band printed around it | The glass needs the camera bracket bonded in place, and the camera is calibrated after the install |
| Rain and light sensor | A small gel pad or module on the glass near the mirror; wipers that start on their own | The new windshield must carry the matching sensor mount |
| Heads-up display | Speed or directions projected onto the glass in front of the driver | A special wedge layer that keeps the image from doubling; it is a separate part |
| Acoustic layer | Often marked on the glass logo in the lower corner; a quieter cabin on the highway | A sound-damping interlayer, matched to what the car came with |
| Heated wiper area | Fine lines or a darker band at the bottom of the glass where the wipers rest | A heating element built into the glass, with its own connector |
The VIN sits at the base of the windshield on the driver's side and on your insurance card. Text a photo of it to (877) 350-5962 for the quickest exact quote.
Work zones
Where stone and grit meet your glass
Most replacements start with one chip. These are the Miami-area projects and freight routes where loose material and heavy trucks share the lanes in 2026.
| Where | What is going on | Timeline (as published) |
|---|---|---|
| Okeechobee Road (US 27) | A state freight route from the Lake Belt limestone quarries toward Medley, the airport and the port; FDOT is rebuilding about ten miles between the Broward line and the Palmetto | Scheduled to finish in fall 2032 |
| Golden Glades Interchange | The junction of I-95, the Palmetto (SR 826), the Turnpike and US 441 is being rebuilt | Under construction since 2024 |
| I-395 and SR 836 | The new signature bridge and the work around it, west of downtown Miami | Completion expected late 2029 |
| Krome Avenue (SR 997) | Farm and truck traffic through the Redland on the way to Homestead and Florida City | Year-round traffic, not a project |
Lane closures shift week to week. Check fdotmiamidade.com before a long trip through any of these.
Rainy season
Booking a windshield between May and October
The National Weather Service in Miami puts the median start of the rainy season around May 20, and the wet pattern lasts into mid-October. Late May to early July is usually the stormiest stretch, with frequent lightning.
- A garage, carport or covered space lets us keep the slot even when a cell builds in the afternoon.
- No cover? Book the morning. Storms in South Florida summers tend to build later in the day.
- If lightning or heavy rain is on its way to your area, we call to move the time, and you choose the new one.
- Leave the glass dry and the wipers off when the technician arrives, so the frame can be cleaned and primed.
- Once the job is done, follow the technician's advice about car washes and rolling the windows down for the first day.
Humidity and heat change how the urethane sets, so the technician gives you a safe-to-drive time on the day rather than a set number of hours.

Florida rules
Cracks, the law and your deductible
Florida Statutes § 316.2952 requires a windshield made with safety glazing that meets federal standards on every car driven on public roads. It sets no length at which a crack becomes illegal, so the real test is safety: a crack across the driver's view, or one that keeps growing, means a new windshield.
On paying for it: § 627.7288 says the deductible on a Florida policy with comprehensive coverage does not apply to windshield damage. A covered windshield can have $0 Deductible with Comprehensive Coverage. That rule is about the windshield only, and we confirm your coverage before booking. Allstate, GEICO, State Farm, USAA, Progressive or a smaller insurer: we help you file with yours. The Florida insurance page has the rest of the law.
Windshield questions from Miami drivers
Not sure about your car? Call our Miami line, (305) 677-8371, or text the VIN to (877) 350-5962.
Do you repair chips in Miami?
No. We only replace glass. If a chip has started to spread or sits right in front of the driver, a new windshield is what we can offer.
What does OEM-quality glass mean?
Glass made to the vehicle maker's specifications for shape, clarity and the mounts your car's features need. We match it to your VIN, including camera, sensor and heads-up display versions.
Is my car safe to drive home on the Palmetto right after the install?
Wait for the safe-to-drive time the technician gives you. It depends on the urethane and on the heat and humidity that afternoon.
Can I get a windshield the same day in Miami?
Same-day appointments are available in most areas. It depends on the glass your car needs and the schedule that day. Appointment requests are open 24/7 online, and installs run Monday through Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
What does the warranty cover?
Each install carries our lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. It covers our workmanship and defects in the glass we install, not new damage such as the next stone. The full terms are at bangautoglass.com/warranty.
